The Reality of Groundfighting and the Street

You know I'm always researching to make programs better and working to educate the public. Earlier today I ran across a video that illustrates what most combatives people have been trying to say for years. This will be a refresher for people who have read all my articles in the past. There is a big difference between fighting in the octagon and fighting on the street. Not because the tactics are that different because they aren't. It's because of the situation strategies are different and so training for the street must be different. I won't regurgitate something I've already covered you can read out this in a previous article called Are You In A Sport Art and Don't Know It? The majority of fights go to the ground  but they don't stay there and fight for a submission. If you get caught on the ground fight to get back to your feet don't waste time. You don't know what else is around you.
What you will see in the video below of this short article is something I touched on in a previous article about the bystander effect called Kitty Genovese and Me. I wrote that article for  an E-Zine called The Combatant over two years ago. What you are going to see is what I call the biker mentality illustrated perfectly even though these are not bikers. Generally with the bystander effect people don't jump in to help when they see a violent event taking place. However, if they see this person as part of their peer group they will absolutely jump in. You see this alot with bikers because if you fight one you will have to fight them all pretty much hence the name. As you will see you don't have to be a biker for this to happen. This is one of many reasons you shouldn't get caught fighting on the ground if you can get up then you should definitely do it!
